Job Description

Key Purpose of the Job

Design, write and maintain RenderMan shaders.

Needs To Do

  • The position of Shader Writer requires someone with a thorough knowledge of Pixar's PhotoRealistic RenderMan, with several years of experience in a similar role. Successful applicants will have solid mathematical skills, a thorough knowledge of physically based rendering algorithms, look-dev and lighting. You will interact daily with the Shading Team and Head of Lighting and Rendering and contribute to the extension and maintainance of the company's shading pipeline.

Needs To Know

  • Solid understanding of mathematics, optics, colour, light transport, HDRI, physically based shading.
  • Strong shader writing skills and the ability to come up with creative, efficient rendering solutions.
  • Thorough knowledge of Pixar's PhotoRealistic RenderMan.
  • Experience with writing DSOs and shaders using Python, RSL and C++.
  • Experience with other renderers and shading languages (Arnold, Mantra, VRay, OSL, ...) a plus.
  • Experience in shading assets/environments/effects for photoreal feature film.
  • Ability to deliver pipeline-ready workflows.
  • Familiarity with Maya and Linux.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role.
