Job Description

Spellbound is a long-established games-developer located in the south of Germany, right on the French border. The company focus is on Console and PC titles. The development team features a rich mix of nationalities with staff from all over the world working together in English. In the past the company has won a number of national awards and has been internationally successful with the Desperados and Airline Tycoon series. The latest release Arcania – Gothic 4 was an Action RPG, awarded with best German Console Game 2010. The company is consistently expanding and developing its structure to match. 

Spellbound is currently seeking for a Lead Online Developer/Programmer.


  • Effectively communicate the core technical design and experience to the rest of the internal organization
  • Help to ensure that the product leverages the ideas and resources of the design
  • Project manage all technical facets of the online game as a live service
  • Help evaluate, as part of due diligence, technical capabilities of prospective partners
  • Problem solve
  • Review and critique developers work
  • Identify project risks and communicate them promptly and effectively with proposed solutions
  • Create best practices and technical documents

An ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Working knowledge of object oriented PHP 4 or 5, HTML 4, CSS 2 or 3, MySQL and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of Design Patterns
  • Experience with Unix Systems
  • Ability to effectively problem solve
  • Architectural expertise
  • Working knowledge of upcoming technologies such as Flash 3D, HTML 5, etc.
  • Project management experience
  • Strong understanding of backend/online infrastructure as it relates to social/casual games
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in a team environment with maturity and leadership

Previous Experience:

  • 5+ years software development experience within the games industry. Online and social games experience a must
  • 2+ years as a Technical Director or Lead Programmer or Team Leader of games development
  • 1+ AAA social/casual games titles preferred, including launch and live execution
