Black Tusk Studios are a Microsoft 1st party development studio located in downtown Vancouver, Canada. We are the official home of the Gears of War franchise and our objective is to forge the future of the IP and push the limits of Microsoft’s entertainment platforms and devices. Our team is comprised of deep creative and technical expertise from our industry’s top shooter and action titles, working cohesively to delight our fan base and shatter expectations of what is possible.


Black Tusk Studios are seeking a Community Manager with a passion for Gears of War to oversee the design and execution of community engagement programs, leading the editorial direction of content to be published via our social media outlets, blogs and forums. You will partner closely with a variety of teams within Black Tusk and Microsoft to streamline processes, along with developing and supporting global community engagement plans. You will need to be a self-motivated, independent leader with proven experience managing an at scale community within the entertainment industry. You are expected to pro-actively identify key opportunities and strategies to engage with the community, whilst anticipating business needs and implementing solutions across a multi-faceted organization.

- Lead the execution of all North America community engagement programs for Gears of War.
- Provide editorial direction, planning, and guidance for our community publishing efforts.
- Manage relationships with North American community partners such as fan sites, influencers and volunteer networks.
- Support the development and execution of global community engagement programs.
- Share player feedback and sentiment with developers and other teams through data and analysis.
- Act as public representative of Black Tusk in online channels and at community events, including working with development team representatives to interact with the community.
- Provide excellent community support to players, customers and forum members through various channels such as forums, in-game chat, messaging, emails, tickets and phone.
- Demonstrate superior diplomacy and fairness to all community members.
- Respond to the community with a level of urgency and in a fair, understanding and professional tone regardless of the issue at hand.
- Track, manage, prioritize and follow up on a high volume of issues simultaneously.

- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in community management for a large game or entertainment brand.
- Experience managing a major gaming, entertainment, or technology blog/web publishing outlet.
- Extensive experience in social web outreach.
- A passionate gamer possessing ample experience with shooter games, preferably the Gears of War franchise, its communities, and the gaming space in general.
- Strategic thinker with strong execution and communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to work with other members across the organization.
- Extremely detail-oriented and driven to consistently meet deadlines.
- Able to organize thoughts and make critical decisions under time constraints and a full work load.
- Able to travel, including international travel, and work long hours and weekends as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or equivalent work experience.
